Similar Film Analysis - Amy Cass

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
In Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, there is a part when Harry uses a Pensieve to look back on previous memories of Professor Slughorns. I chose to analyse this part of the film because I thought it related to the flashbacks that we are doing in our film.

Effects-
When the flashback starts, as Harry puts his head into the water the colours of the shot start to come together as if it is ink. Then as it continues, there is an effect on it that makes it look eerie. It’s not black and white, but it enhanced the blues and the yellows within the frame.  Then to finish, as Slughorn waves his arms, it’s as if he is messing up the image because shadows appear and then the camera races towards Harry’s face, as he takes it out of the water.

Sound-
The sound in the flashback is also been altered. It echoes at the end of words e.g.- intuition, sir, professors, misunderstand. Also when Professor Slughorn taps the hourglass, the sound echoes more than it would usually. Here the editors have intensified the sound to make it more dramatic. Then when Riddle and Slughorn are talking there is a part of the memory that Slughorn can’t quite remember, for this part they have muffled out what Riddle says.

Camera Shots-
Within this scene there are many different camera shots. These are some;
·         Close Up
·         Shot, reverse, shot
·         Two person shot
·         An establishing shot (they show the majority of the classroom, therefore establishing the location)
·         The use of a dolly to follow Riddle as he walks around the classroom
·         Over the shoulder shot to look at Slughorn from Riddles point of view
